Privacy Policy

What happens to your files, preferences and downloads when you use xfiles.

Last updated: October 22, 2026

Your files are processed on your device. Optional model downloads and website delivery still involve network requests.

01Who operates xfiles

xfiles is a browser-based file toolkit operated by Nihal Gupta. This policy explains how the current website and its installed browser app handle information. For privacy questions or requests, email nihalgupta140@gmail.com.

02Your files and content

Files selected in the PDF, image and audio tools, entered text and generated results are processed locally in your browser. The app does not send their contents to our servers or to an AI inference service, and does not use them to train models. You do not need an account to use the free tools.

Selected files, entered text and results are held in the current tool’s memory. Leaving the tool or closing the app releases the app’s references to that content; this is not a guarantee of secure erasure from device memory. Files you download remain on your device until you delete them.

03Preferences and browser storage

We use browser local storage to remember your theme and saved tools. The website no longer stores an offline copy of the app. Each launch requests the current website, so an internet connection is needed to open it. Selected files and generated results are not saved in an app cache.

Optional audio model and voice files may be cached after download to avoid downloading them repeatedly. Your browser may also use ordinary HTTP caching. Preferences and cached files can remain until you clear site data or your browser removes them. The audio tool’s “Remove cached model” control removes the selected model’s cached entries. Older app versions stored offline assets; those legacy app caches are removed when the new version opens. This cleanup preserves preferences and optional model weights. You can clear all site data in browser settings.

04Optional audio model downloads

Audio tools download their runtime and model files only after you choose the load/download action. Runtimes come from jsDelivr; model and voice files come from Hugging Face and its delivery infrastructure. Additional voice files may be requested when you select a voice. Speech generation and transcription then run on your device.

These providers receive ordinary download-request information, such as your IP address, requested asset and browser information. The app does not include your document, entered text or recording in those requests. Their handling of request information is described in the Hugging Face Privacy Policy and jsDelivr Privacy Policy.

05Website delivery and analytics

Loading or updating xfiles makes network requests to the website’s hosting and delivery providers. They may process IP addresses, request times, requested URLs, browser information and security or operational logs to deliver and protect the site. This request data is separate from the file contents processed locally.

If analytics is enabled by the site operator, xfiles uses PostHog to count page views and understand which tools and pages are used. A page view includes the page path, which can identify the tool page you visited, and ordinary network information such as your IP address and browser type. The app does not send the referring page URL. PostHog processes this information under its ownPrivacy Policy.

Analytics is disabled until a PostHog project key is configured. When enabled, xfiles sends page views only: automatic interaction capture and session recording are disabled. File names, file contents and text you enter are not sent as analytics events. The analytics SDK uses in-memory persistence and does not set persistent analytics cookies or local-storage identifiers. PostHog may process request data needed to deliver its service; its retention is controlled by the project settings and provider policies.

06Donations and external websites

The Donate link opens an external support page, currently Buy Me a Coffee. Payment details are entered with that provider, not in xfiles. The provider and its payment processors handle payment information under their own terms and privacy policies. We may receive information the provider makes available to the creator, such as a supporter name, message or transaction details. External websites are responsible for their own data practices.

07Contact information, retention and your choices

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include. We use that information to answer your request and keep it only as needed to handle the conversation or meet applicable obligations. Email providers also process those messages. Please do not send sensitive documents or recordings.

You can use the core tools without loading an audio model, remove saved tools, clear site data and delete downloaded files yourself. Depending on applicable law, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict personal information we hold. Contact nihalgupta140@gmail.com to make a request or raise a concern. We cannot retrieve files that were processed only on your device.

We do not sell personal information or use your file contents for advertising. We do not knowingly collect children’s personal information; contact us if you believe a child has sent personal information to us.

08Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change and revise the “Last updated” date. Where required, we will provide additional notice or seek consent before a relevant change takes effect.
